Excerpt from INTO THE LIGHT:
Becca held her finger under her nose and stifled the urge to retch. The stench of opened stomach and bowel was overpowering and her eyes watered.
“Breathe through your sleeve,” Michael, one of the few who could understand what her powerful nose was picking up, whispered as he stepped away from her to explore the scene. If this was hard for her, it had to be terrible for the other members of her unit. Their sense of smell was even stronger than hers.
Brown canvas-jacketed sheriffs and blue parka-clad local police were working to process the scene. Darkening skies, heavy with snow-filled clouds, urged them to be quick. One young officer leaned against a tree trunk on the perimeter heaving out his breakfast, a camera hung by its strap from the hand not propping him up.
Unashamed to have anyone else think she was near vomiting herself, Becca pulled her hand inside her wool sleeve and held the end to her nose and mouth, trunk-like. Several gulps of warm air allowed her head to clear. Blinking away the reactionary dampness that had formed in her eyes when she was gagging, Becca pretended to be searching the ground for tracks and other clues while she watched the scene out of the corner of her eye. Her skin itched from the tension coming off the blue and brown coats littering the scene.
Ryan took long strides past her, heading straight for the bodies. Circling first the human, then the dog, he came in close. Odd considering the attention everyone was paying to the human. Sensing her gaze, he looked up and winked.

My Demonic Ghost # 2- Death

I couldn’t bring myself to even lift my head. “I was too late....”

I cupped my hand over my mouth, unable to swallow the heavy words that felt like dead weight on my tongue. My knuckles were bleeding between the joints.

He’s dead. He’s dead. He’s dead.

Farren ~ The gypsy thief

Farren ~ The gypsy thief with a huge deadly secret.

He is 19 years old and survives purely off the coin that he manages to either pinched from travellers or deceive from nobles through lies and trickery.  He often uses his charm to control everyone, but underneath the devilish smile is a boy harbouring secrets. To survive Farren has learnt to put up a arour of jokes and empty flattering to win his way.

There's also a bit of an inhuman side to him; he has dark blue hair to match his dark blue eyes. He has a soft tan to his skin and can be quite arrogant about his power of persuasion over people.

Why should I run?

I took a step back as the light next to it turned off, and then the one next to that also switched. The shadows pooling together shifted upwards, building a body of a man with green eyes. It was Lock; I knew it even with his face completely masked ...in darkness. He was standing at the end of the platform, bearing sharpened white teeth and highlight green eyes. Then he ran at me.

He came charging through, blowing the lights out as he passed underneath them, their brittle glass bodies cracking and exploding with sharp bangs. Panic hit me hard and fast, forcing my legs to stumble backwards but I was no match to his incredible speed. He was a tidal wave of darkness and I had nowhere to go but back.

Taking Angels Review

I am so lucky to be able to read CS Yelle's newest creation, Taking Angels.

Synopsis:
Britt Anderson went along with everything the doctors said for nearly four years, but she was still dying at eighteen. The cancer had won leaving her without a future, without any options, and without control. No control, except for how she would leave this world. As Britt tries to end her life by going into the frigid waters she realizes her mistake. She struggles to get back to shore, to cry out for help, but her atrophied muscles are useless and the frigid water steals the breath from her chemo-scarred lungs. Despite her father’s attempts to reach her, she flies over the waterfall.
When Allister Parks finds Britt’s fragile body on the riverbank something calls out to him. Ignoring the warnings of his sister, Allister brings Britt back from the edge of death. The only problem is that an Eternal like Allister isn’t allowed to touch those who have already passed from this world. It is forbidden; an infraction punishable by death.
As Britt relishes her new cancer-free life and senior year of high school, her very existence threatens Allister’s place in this world. Allister struggles to keep Britt a secret from the Eternal Council and out of the hands of the only Eternal who already knows the truth: the one who stole her guardian angel.

My review: 5/5 Stars

Taking Angels is a paranormal adventure where we follow the life of 18 year old Britt Anderson. From the very beginning, my breath as well as my heart was stolen by this courageous and unfortunate young woman, who should’ve been enjoying her senior year of high school but instead was suffering through the agony of cancer. The moment when her father eased her body into the water, completely unaware of her intentions, was just so heart breaking I almost felt myself tearing up and THAT was at the beginning on the book.
As the waters cradle her body away from the shore Britt is relieved, unable to bear another moment of her suffering until memories of her family and friends suddenly make life feel not so unforgiveable. In an desperate attempt to paddle herself back to shore and cry out for help, the current proves too powerful against her fragile frame and throws her from the rocks and into the darkness down below. When she awoke from an the plunge that should have killed her, Britt instead finds herself in the company of two shadowy figures, whispering in melodic voices about disastrous consequences , but she just couldn’t understand them. If that wasn’t strange enough, her body that had been long tormented and broken down by cancer is miraculously cured. We’re talking more than just the cancer cells, every imperfection, every scar and mark on her body had completed recovered as if cancer have never touched her in the first place. Free from cancer and opening her arms up to a life she had thought she had lost, Britt plans to take every day as a gift and live to the fullest.

That’s when we’re introduced to the lovely brother and sister Allister and Angelina Parks who are the new kids at Britt’s high school. Giving off an impression of preferring solitude, they elect to remain recluse from all interaction with the rest of the school until Britt, who was already fascinated by them, matches their voices back to the fated incident at the bottom of the waterfall. She starts to question everything around her. Who are these people? Are there such things as Angels? Was it just a coincidence or do the newcomers actually have a deeper secret of their own? A secret that can explain everything that had happened to Britt’s body and how she was able to not only get up from her fall but reappear 100% renewed! Their secret exceeds our known world and plunges waist deep into the word of guardian angels. But when the gift of life is bestowed upon them there couldn’t have been a more tragic consequences and Britt learns this hard way.
I have to congratulate C.S Yelle on his incredible ability to capture the voice of not just our main characters, but also every single side character that appeared along the way. Each had their own tone and voice; each had their own characteristics, their own background and personality that really allowed the book to breath. It was multi-layered and beautifully crafted. There’s absolutely everything in this amazing book, we have action mixed with the right amount of romance and suspense. Not only that but I absolutely loved the heroine’s introduction to the story, and how she had started off seeking death only to be rewarded with the gift of life and a love that’ll make you squeal into your pillow.
A heart felt and beautiful story to match an amazing front cover, Taking Angels is definitely on the top of my favourite books of 2013.

Title Pending- Current Project.

I have a clock for a heart…

And the boy who put it there tried to take it out.

Living life with a bronze ticker has taught me one valuable lesson. Time is precious. I cannot waste a single moment. Not a single second. I realise this truth a little too late now that I face my death. The very thing that was put into my chest to save me is destined to be my undoing. To have time will save the lives of many. To buy time I must be sacrificed. I must die for him, for everyone, to be free.

Mad About Books ~ THANK YOU

OMG! What a beautiful, beautiful surprise! I am so grateful and happy to wake up to a new review. This one is from Mad About Books you can find them here: Facebook.

Mad About Books ~
5/5 Stars

Quite fancied the synopsis of this book and glad I read it. It's YA so for the younger category than I usually read but was very enjoyable.

You meet Rachael while she's travelling to Whitehaven to visit her father for the first time in years. It's not something she looks forward to doing after he started going mad a few years ago but he's dying and she can't put the visit off any longer. Things are worse than she imagined though as he looks as if he's aged a decade and is living in squalor.

Unbeknownst to her there really is another realm of demons just like her father said and he dies as a result of them shortly after she arrives. A new world is unveiled to her when the demon attaches himself to her soul just as he did her father.

With the truth that her life is on the line Rachael sets out to help the demon Lock on his quest to get to the Third Realm and avoid Hell. Along the way though they must ally themselves with other Hosts and banished spirits, avoid the Hunters and defeat the seven Sins all without even knowing if it will work.

Rachael isn't just another Host to Lock though. She's more to his own age when he died, see's him for more than just a demon and wants to help him even if it might be for her own reasons. You journey with the duo and watch them discover themselves.

Very nice YA novel that has the right amount of drama, romance and adventure.
The partnership of Lock and Rachael is very unsteady at the beginning and I did wonder how they would develop as he was very cold and callous towards her but she does persist and he really does develop to the point where I wanted to read the story from his point of view.
Their romance was bound to be doomed as he was dead, she was obviously going to age and ultimately he wanted to move on to the Third Realm but watching it develop was very sweet and sad towards the end.

No real flaws with this other than I thought it was abit too easy for Rachael as her mother just let her leave Whitehaven on her own to go to the City for days on end and didn't give her too much bother. But then the back story was that was she a trustworthy and sensible teen so that's more me seeing it as unrealistic.

Would recommend for any YA readers and up or those that fancy a change from all the highly sexed paranormal fiction and want to read some romance with a twist.

Hope there's a future story from Lock/Evan.
