Second Sight, book 1 of The Admiral’s Elite

Rebecca Sauter is a proud military police officer with a secret; she’s clairvoyant. Her ex-Marine father can’t understand why she won’t try harder for a commission but for Becca, hiding among the greater mass of enlisted men and women is safer.

One night on a run she encounters a terrifying man and his beastly dogs; in her attempts to defend herself she hits her head and passes out. When she wakes up in the hospital she’s being collected by a handsome but rude officer.

Humans are fragile. That has been Captain Michael Rossi’s mantra since his first days as a vampire in 1944. Now Admiral Black has given a post within his elite unit to a human woman solely because she has “the sight”. Michael’s fears that she will bring harm to his men are soon eclipsed by his realization that it is her who might suffer should the admiral decide she is a poor fit.

Dive into this new world with HK Savage’s new cast of characters in a series Paranormal Book Club is already calling “Perfect!”

How to Date an Alien - Review

HOW TO DATE AN ALIEN  - REVIEW
By Author Magan Venon

Blurb:

High school senior Alex Bianchi's estranged father gets her an internship at Circe Operations Center to pad her college applications. But Circe isn't your typical military base. It's an alien-run operation center and not all of the aliens are friendly, especially the one that tries to kill Alex on her first day. When Ace, a dark-eyed Caltian, enters and saves the day, she can't help but be drawn to him. Can these star-crossed lovers survive when they're on the brink of intergalactic war?(
How to Date an Alien was a fun light and very easy read. We are introduced to a very lovable heroine, Alex with her dorky glasses, social awkward skills and military father. The story was very fast paced, wasting no time with introducing the aliens and the dangers that they possess. I loved Alex from the very beginning. She did have flaws which she admitted and accepted, and didn't let other interns push her around and give her a hard time. She had a slight distance in her relationship with her father, who was the one who got Alex into the programme to help boost her extra curriculum and hopefully get into the college of her choice.

She had a slight distance in her relationship with her father, who was the one who got Alex into the programme to help boost her extra curriculum and hopefully get into the college of her choice.

There is a slight love triangle in the story involving the hot alien Ace and attractive and eager Gavin. Gavin got on my nerves a little, especially how he wouldn't take a hint and leave poor Alex alone. I had to laugh a few when trying to picture their awkward space suits; I couldn’t stop imagining the same clothes the worms from Men in Black strut around in. I also thought it was a cute attributes how the alien ranking system was similar to high school, but unlike Alex’s human high school where she was regarded on the bottom of the food chain, in an alien institute she was instantly put on the top.

The only down fall I could see was the repetition in the story, I didn't like the whole stalkerish side of things and how Ace kept staring at her and watching her from across the room. Putting myself in Alex's shoes, that would've had me running in the other direction and not trying to get some alone time with him. It was beautiful and sweet romance, one that was built upwards with witty and playful character banter.
I enjoyed reading this book

My Ghostly Shadow

Artist: Alexzappa

Death, it’s ironic how I used to not recognise it as a living thing where it now follows me like my own shadow. Always following carefully. But now it had a face and a name, I called it Lock.
Lock and Rachael from My Demonic Ghost - Book One.

Lock is a banished spirit; a demonic ghost that gives him cursed powerful eyes and dark magic powers. Rachael is his human host, a walking battery source that allows Lock to survive on the human plane. Together they are searching for a safe haven to save Lock from damnation.

This is absolutely beautiful, thank you so much to Alexzappa for her amazing piece of Lock and Rachael, she really was able to breathe life to these characters and I just love their positioning, Lock peeking over Rachael's shoulder and the night time city background just looks amazing.
If you have a moment, please check out Alexzappa's gallery.

The Wild Creator & Dancing with Fire

THE WILD CREATOR : My Demonic Ghost

I am drafting the appearance of Creators, as I wasn't happy with my original idea. So please bear with me, I'm getting a lot of different versions created.

More powerful than any Royal Spirit, a Creator is a pure essence made up of uncontrolled emotion and instinct. They are dangerous as they are unpredictable, powerful and have wild emotions. Though, they are known to be gentle spirits, it isn't uncommon for a Creator to dramatically change to violence and back to peaceful again.

They are the ultimate weapon, usually seen in the form of little creatures like baby birds, tiny snakes and mice but to have a Creator as a pet is the highest honour any spirit can carry.

When in human form they are always accompanied by small creatures like snakes, rabbits, mice or birds. They are not good nor evil, just spirits.

DANCING WITH FIRE : Dusty Blood

Farren claims to be a poor gypsy boy from the southlands of Derrimut and from a large family of 12. With his good looks and easy charm, Farren had no difficulties taking goods from women of all classes and also swindle the noble men.
There are secrets to Farren's life that are so dangerous that he keeps himself on the run. Like most rogues, his cunning nature, quick steps and even quicker tongue has been his key features to survive out on his own. That is, until of course young Farren runs into the infamous Sebastian and his accompanying orphan Maemi/Evelynn.

The longer he stays with them the higher chance of his darkest secrets being exposed out into the open, so why can't he just turn and leave like he leaves everyone else?

White Rose and Chains

I think this is one of the best descriptions detailing about Lock and Rachael I've had from an artist:

Rachael is covered with white roses that twist around her body and hand, and also decorate her hair and dress. The white colour is her purity and although she really loves Lock, she can't touch him because the land is holding her. The white rose is also a symbol of the human world.

For Lock, h
e was drawn with black wings to represent his demonic side and his appearance of evil. The chain is also the symbol of the underworld that will always be holding him back making it impossible for him to really be with her. The choice of them smiling at each other helps spread the message; even though they are separated their love isn't a sad or depressing story, but a beautiful chance to feel love for the first time.

National Novel Writers Month

I am so excited about November!! Why you might ask?

Because I have joined a free forum  called - National Novel Writers Month where you have to complete a novel worth at minimum 50,000 words during the month of November. That is starting from scratch!!

Here is the website: http://www.nanowrimo.org/

If you want a challenge why not try out NaNoWiMo (short for National Novel Writers Month) with me? I'm pretty sure it's localised to Australians but there's no reason why you can't join the fun as well! Once it enters into November, you must write, write, write until you've hit that 50,000 word novel. There are prizes to be won to all those who participate.

Also, i've created a new web page that only focuses on the My Demonic Ghost - series. Give aways and promotional gifts will be advertised on that web page, as well as my facebook, deviant art page and up here on personal blog. I'm sorry that I have been a bit inactive lately; I've been putting all of my spare time into completing My Demonic Ghost - Reapers which is Book Two of the trilogy.

Check it out, tell me what you think -

Crow's Row - Review

CROW'S ROW - BY JULIE HOCKLEY

Blurb:
For college student Emily Sheppard, the thought of spending a summer alone in New York is much more preferable than spending it in France with her parents. Just completing her freshman year at Callister University, Emily faces a quiet summer in the city slums, supporting herself by working at the campus library. During one of her jogs through the nearby cemetery while visiting her brother Bill's grave, Emily witnesses a brutal killing-and then she blacks out. When Emily regains consciousness, she realizes she's been kidnapped by a young crime boss and his gang. She is hurled into a secret underworld, wondering why she is still alive and for how long.

Held captive in rural Vermont, she tries to make sense of her situation and what it means. While uncovering secrets about her brother and his untimely death, Emily falls in love with her very rich and very dangerous captor, twenty-six year- old Cameron. She understands it's a forbidden love and one that won't allow her to return to her previous life. But love may not be enough to save Emily when no one even knows she is missing.

My Review:
5 / 5 Stars

This was one of those books where one free sample just wasn’t enough; I sped right through the chapters and was clicking the download button within moments.
Crow’s Row kept my interest largely because of the humour involved with the dialogue; I loved the banter between the characters as it felt real and natural not like a lot of books I’ve read. Emily has an interesting view of herself and of her environment, picking up on details of her settings with a keen eye though at times I just skipped paragraphs when they started listing the grocessors in the cupboard or the clothes in the draw. I don’t think that was really necessary.
Her love and devotion to her 'not-so-perfect' but lovable brother Bill was amazing, even though he obviously had his own problems, the two siblings had a powerful connection that only intensified with Bill's death.
Over all this was a brilliant, easy and fast paced read, even though the ending had me gripping at my seat with such strength I could almost punch my fingers through the wood, I still loved every bit of this.

The Speed of one's Imagination....

I write this blog entry due to how quickly I am working through My Demonic Ghost - Reapers which is book two after My Demonic Ghost- Banished Spirits.
I found I work the best with inspirational music, mainly from the sound tracks of Lord of the Rings, Transformers, Narnia and other fictional movie titles. In particular, this one youtube video had been on my repeat list for the past week and I still can't get over how beautiful and well crafted the playlist is.

I hope this helps with other writers needing just that extra nudge to get themselves moving. For a while I had been stuck in a dreadful rut with 90 pages, but now I'm over 220 and still cooking. HOORAY!

Apart from my own active writing life, I've been snooping Goodreads trying to find some new titles to add to my collection of EBooks. So far, I've chosen Crow's Row by Julie Hockley, Beguiled (Immortal Essence) by RaShelle Workman and Escaped the Night by Jennifer Blyth. I had entered a competition to win a signed copy of Escape the Night but unfortunately I didn't win. Bwa Bwa!

Any other suggestions of your favourite books that I should look into?

If you haven't already, I would love it if you added me on Goodreads, I love checking out all the new books everyone is posting and finding some hidden gems.
If any of you live in Minneapolis, Staccato Publishing is going to be at Heartland Forum THIS WEEKEND!!! Alas, being in Australia means I'm stuck with just checking facebook updates and wishing I was there, but all you lucky people living in the US you should definitely GO GO GO GO GOOO!  *waves flag*

While I've got your attention, here is something for Australian's to enjoy and check out.
I had spent a night in a Japanese Mountain Retreat in Montrose a few weekends ago for my boyfriends birthday, this is what I thought of it.

This is one of the best places that I have ever stayed, the people and service were absolutely amazing. I was only here for a night, but I wish I could have stayed for the whole weekend. Right from the very beginning we were swept away by the beautiful landscape and attention to detail with their room set up and Japanese cuisine. The hot spring was one of the biggest surprises I think we had, we did not expect to have our own private bath set up with Japanese style rocks, clear blue water and a bottle of mineral water. The night time atmosphere had really completed the romantic setting. I will definitely come back here every chance I get, only thing I regret is not getting a chance to get one of their spa treatments. No doubt, you MUST COME HERE!

Black Chained Birds

And who was to catch him when he let himself fall?
The spirit of a young boy, banished and condemned, broke the ashed winged skies in his descent and fell with chains still locked around his limbs.
Who was to catch this forgotten shadow as he closes his eyes and doesn't even whisper a word...?
